dream replayed

I have heard the splash
of predatory divers
felt the shadows of blue herons
gliding overhead
saw leaves tremble while
the brown wasp curled low
darting across the white glare
of the spangled sand

I have been thrown
against the walls of my doubt
battered by my own resistance
ricocheted inside my ego’s confines
languished beneath a dim sky
been shaken by desire and
cleansed in the flame

I have taken a tumbling run
over a broken shelf
accepted the colorless night
as it cast a hazy sun and drew
a hobble around my throat
forced me into a day of speaking softly
my heart furled tight as a nut

I have wakened with the dead
numbed in my bower
waited for the gilded slide of
the arcane realm to confound me
called upon the warrior goddess
and was devoured
